Democracy in Europe threatened by ‘populism,’ (aka democracy) says Blair’s crony think tank

December 30, 2017

The upsurge of “populist” political movements across Europe as resistance grows to state sponsored mass immigration and European authoritarianism, is, according to globalist, neo – liberal think tank set up by former UK Prime Minister, traitor and war criminal Tony Blair,  threatens to destabilize democracy across Europe. However, its new report says nothing of the abject failure of multiculturalism, the importation of terrorism and third world lawlessness, the economic profligacy, murderous foreign interventions and general corruption of traditional parties of government whose ineptitude and cronyism is responsible for all this.

While globalists like Blair and neo – liberal world government advocates use the term populist scathingly as if it refers to something unthinkable in the free world, in fact is simply refers to politicians who listen and respond to public opinion, particularly the concerns of voters unhappy that their countries are being run by self styled elites who are totally out of touch with the realities of life.

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Institute for Global Change said populism could become the “new normal” in Europe and “transform public policy in radical ways.” Would that be a bad thing, you might well ask.

Defining populist parties as those from the left and right that “claim to represent the true will of a unified people against domestic elites, foreign migrants or ethnic, religious or sexual minorities,” the report says their number has almost doubled in Europe since 2000, from 33 to 63, and their average vote share in elections nearly trebled from 8.5 percent to 24.1 percent.

Over the same period, the authors claim, the number of European countries with populist parties participating in government has doubled from seven to 14 – creating an unprecedented “populist belt” from the Baltic to the Aegean. And in larger nations including France and Germany, where socialists and conservatives, natural enemies among the mainstream parties, have conspired to keep parties such as Front National and Alternatif fur Deutschland out of power, the resulting chaos it exacting a heavy price economically and socially.) (Since the inconclusive German election in September, Chancellor Merkel has been unable to form a government.) After a blatant stitch up in Spain kept new anti – EU leftist party Podemos out of power, a separatist movement in the wealthiest province is finding a lot of support for its push for independence.

Populist parties are the strongest in Eastern Europe and currently hold power in eight countries – Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, and Slovakia, the report says.

The report highlighted British allies Poland and Hungary as run by parties that have begun to “dismantle key democratic institutions.”’ This is in fact not true, they have actually begun to dismantle the processes that give the unelected bureaucrats of the European Commission supremacy over the democratically elected lawmakers of the national assemblies.

Told You So – You Wouldn’t Vote UKIP, Now Tha Nazis Are In Charge

July 16, 2014

BERLIN (Reuters) – The head of the European Parliament said on Wednesday that the “radically anti-European” views of Jonathan Hill, British premier David Cameron’s nominee for the European Commission, might prevent him getting onto the EU’s executive body.

As the progressive liberal (aka authoritarian fascist) bandwagon rolls on through the ancient nation states of Europe, Hitler and Mussolini, Stalin and Sultan Suyeman must be laughing their megalomaniacal heads off in whatever firey pit or dark abyss they inhabit.

First we had the new President of the EU Commission, Jean – Claude Drunkard telling European leaders he wanted half the new Commissioners to be women and would veto appointments if he did not get his wish. It has always been the prerogative of member nations to nominate their own choices.

Now we have the Kraut who says democracy must not be allowed to stand in the way of creating a European federal Superstate (run, no doubt, by a committee of unelected bureaucrats).

Martin Schulz, the German socialist president of the parliament, warned national leaders on Tuesday that unless they nominate what he calls “enough” women as commissioners, the parliament will reject the entire incoming college of commissioners.

Schulz, who was one of the organisers of the new system of “Spitzenkandidat” or lead candidate which in effect chose Jean-Claude Juncker as president of the commission despite opposition by British Prime Minister David Cameron, says that the three or four women’s names now circulating are not enough.

According to EU Observer, Schulz said: “Looking at the information currently available on the number of female candidates, the commission would not receive the backing of majority in the European Parliament. I will make that point to the [EU leaders] tomorrow.”

Schulz meant the heads of state and government who make up the European Council, which meets today, Wednesday, in a special session to discuss candidates for the other top jobs in Brussels which become vacant later this year.

Although commissioners are nominated by member states, they must be approved by a majority of the European Parliament.

If these shits are allowed to have their wait we will no longer have democracy in the sense rule according to the will of the majority but democracy of demographics, or label politics. In order to maginalise the majority, wannabe dictators will demand that the correct number of women, GayBLT, Muslims, Jews, Black, Asian, and Orientals in government.

Quotas (aka tokenism) have long been a dream of the authoritarian left. One might think even people as stupid and self centred as the ‘progressive left’ would have learned from the example of the incompetent, war mongering, child murdering, cocaine addicted rent boy who is posing as President of the USA the folly of selecting people for top jobs by demographic.

But no, according to the EU having tits is the second best qualification for a job. The best apparently is being a neo Nazi piss head who is usually so rat arsed after lunch he falls asleep in meetigs and dribbles on his order paper. And its all in the name of ‘diversity’.

The more “diverse” these cherry picked commissioners get, the less they will pay attention to such trifling matters as fixing the economy, creating jobs, reining in the rampant greed of corporate industries and anything else that voters might think is important. They will all have politically correct proportions of XY and XX chromosomes, melanin, and sexual preferences. And they’ll all have spent at least eighteen years being brainwashed with globalist propaganda in state run educational institutions so that they think exactly the same way.

Some people are suggesting Cameron ought to veto any European Commission nominee not suported by the national assembly of their country. Boggart Blog would go further. Cameron should veto with immediate effect the £52million the Euronazis get from our tax money.

What Is Democracy? Alf and Vlad know.

March 28, 2014

Alf Garnett
Alf Garnett – picture source

I’ve been accused of being opposed to democracy (bloggers get accused of all sorts, we’re immune to criticism) for presenting the Russian point of view in my comments on the Ukraine crisis.

These people then tell me as if they are imparting some great news I was unaware of, that “Russia is not a democracy.”

I’m aware of that, I’m also aware that Britian, the EU nations and the USA are no more democratic in the classical sense than Russia. News is manipulated, access to information controlled (and what a great tool the internet has turned into for those whose interests are served by restricting access to information. No matter, who needs the truth as long as you have Boggart Blog.

But what is democracy in this modern technological world. We have come so far from the Athens of Artistotle or the Rome of Quintus Fabius or or Cornelius Scipio. Democratic rule does not really work very well after a community’s population passes about 250,000.

So when people tell me Russia is not a democracy it is, is it not, a case of pot calling kettle back.

What I object to is the way the media call anyone undemocratic the moment they fail to fall ino line and do as bidden by Barack Hussein Obama acting on behalf of his wall Street / BIS bosses. Who elected him to tell Russians what to do, or Europeans of Brits for that matter.

Well with a bit of luch we will be “having a democratic word” with Dave and Co. about their willingness to abdicate their responsibilities and surrender British sovereignty to unelected control freaks.

And if they ignore us, we should perhaps remind them of the words of that great political thinker Alf Garnett: “You can’t ‘ave proper democracy wivout killing people.”

As this Russian example demonstrates.

from The Daily Telegraph
Boris Berezovsky, the Russian oligarch and critic of Vladimir Putin, may have been murdered, a coroner ruled.

Mr Berezovsky’s daughter, Elizaveta, had told how she feared that he had been assassinated by Kremlin “enemies” for warning that the Russian president was a “danger to the world”.

A forensic pathologist hired by Mr Berezovsky’s family also told the inquest that he believed the former billionaire had been strangled to death by a “third party”.

Mr Berezovsky, 67, was found dead in a bathroom at his former wife’s £20 million home in Ascot, Berks, in March last year. He had a ligature around his neck.

The inquest previously heard that a mystery fingerprint was found near the body and a paramedic’s radiation alarm had sounded upon entering the house, leading to speculation that the oligarch was killed by Russian enemies.

Ukraine Crisis: Putin Signs Treaty Making Crimea Part Of Russia – EU / US alliance Says Boo!

March 18, 2014

Putin makes Crimea part of Russia as US vice president heads to Poland to send a signal to Russia

puting-eu-threats
I know I’ve used it before but it seemed so apt. Source: zerohedge

The Main story today was the speedy acceptance by Russia of newly independent Crimea’s request to join the Russian Federation. Interesting to see western journalists and political pundits getting their knickers in a twist over this one.

Another headline yesterday screamed “Crimean independence cannot be justified, Crimea is not like Kosovo and the independence vote is illegal.

Now how does Crimea’s demand for independence from Ukraine differ from Kosovo’s split from Serbia in the 1990s in any way other than that the Crimeans, guaranteed protection from Ukrainian reprisals by Russia went down the civilized (well civilisedish) route of holding a democratic vote while the Kosovars, guaranteed protection from Serbian reprisals by western bombers went down the uncivilized route of slaughtering ethnic Serbs living within the area they claimed. There’s no consistency in saying that the secession of Kosovo was fair and the secession of Crimea is unfair.

Apart from that fine example of Orwellian doublethink (cognitive dissonance on a national scale), the west seems more pissed off with Russia for failing to be intimidated by the empty threats of the limp dicked Rent Boy President. In fact the Russian leader Vladimir Putin has repeatedly responded with the political equivalent of rude gestures to the bluster of the USA and EU leaders.

The main thrust of responses from The Chatterati seems to go, “Ho ho, that Putin had better watch himself, if he doesn’t fall into line behind The Obamessiah soon her could find himself isolated in the international community. The art of international diplomacy is to understand what effect a given action, by the first party, will have on the actions of a third party. If you build something threatening on another nation’s border then you have to understand that nation will take steps to do something about it.

It is not difficult to find and read historical accounts of Russia’s centuries old obsession with its own security before criticising the present, transitory, regime or suggesting that threats of isolation will bring them into line with the “international community” (which seems to be breaking apart rapidly). And in the end, whatever anyone thinks of Russia’s actions it must be acknowledged the root cause of the trouble in Ukraine was the EU / USA sponsoring extremist groups with the intent of toppling a democratically elected government and putting in it’s place a west – friendly puppet government.

I’m always gobsmacked by the historical ignorance of lefties. Russia has always been isolated, that’s the way they like it. So what can the west do? Here’s the most ludicrous response so far:

Times of Malta:

Leaders of the Group of Eight world powers have suspended Russia’s participation in the club amid tensions over Ukraine and Russia’s incursion into Crimea, France’s foreign minister said today.

The other seven members of the group had already suspended preparations for a G8 summit that Russia is scheduled to host in Sochi in June.

France’s Laurent Fabius went further today, saying on Europe-1 radio that “concerning the G8… we decided to suspend Russia’s participation, and it is envisaged that all the other countries, the seven leading countries, will unite without Russia”.

He did not give further details.

The US and European Union today announced new sanctions against Russia over its actions in the Crimean Peninsula.

What planet are these people living in? There was a referendum held in which the people of Crimea voted to leave Ukraine.  And to those who say that the referendum was illegal, may I remind them that so is a mob toppling the elected government of Ukraine and forcing its president into exile. So is a bombing campaign by the FUKUS axis to topple the nasty but internationally recognized regime in Libya. So is the supply of arms to enable a bunch of human organ noshing religious fanatics to wage civil war in Syria against a regime that while thoroughly distasteful to the west had the support of more that half of Syrians As for the G8, kicking Russia out will just cause Moscow to cooperate more closely with the other BRICs, thus causing further polarization of developed and developing countries on key global issues.

Once the west sets a precedent for flouting the United Nations charter by meddling in the domestic politics of sovereign nations in the service of its own interests is not hypocritical to claim the moral high ground when condemning others for doing the same. And don’t let the pathetic wailing and gnashing of teeth from those lefties who whine “but we intervened on humanitarian grounds, we supported doing what is right,” fool you. How is it “right” to overthrow a tyrant who has people shot in private and replace his government with theocrats who hack opponents heads off with blunt knives in public and then disembowel the corpse and eat the still warm vital organs, afterwards posing with smiles all round for the people videoing the atrocity to be posted on You Tube.

We should also have no time for the people accusing Putin of not playing fair in threatening to respond to sanctions by cutting off Europe’s gas supply. It ought always to have been obvious (and was to everyone except the political leaders of the EU) that Western Europe should never have become reliant on Russia for gas supplies; even Germany is now publicly regretting the day the decided to rely on imported Russian gas. The CDU party in the German ruling coalition are advocating buying UK gas which is something of a forlorn hope as we hardly have enough for ourselves.

The attempt to impose a government in Kiev that would have taken Ukraine into the EU and NATO was blatant incitement a show of aggressive nationalism by Putin. That EU / US cowardice ensured the response was directed at an economically weak and politically divided sovereign state in Europe is so regressive that comparisons with European politics in the approaches to Word Wars one and two. Except that the Russian armed forces are massively more powerful now than the Germany military was in ’39 or the German / Austro – Hungarian alliance in 1914.

At the very least this signals a return to cold war hostility and an East-West divide. Those smug twats who talk of Russian isolation overlook China’s abstaining on the UN security council vote to condemn Russia’s support for Crimean independence was not a sign of Russia’s isolation; the Chinese supported Russia. And why should Russia fear the G8 (now G7) Britain, USA and France are in dire economic straits and cannot afford an economic crisis, Italy and Japan are effectively bankrupt and Putin has a pistol to the head of Germany as long as Russia’s hands are on the gas tap.

Suggestions that Russia is trying to acquire territory are equally stupid. Even with many former Soviet nations having severed political ties and now being independent nations, The Russian Federation covers 6M square miles and has barely 140M inhabitants. It does not need more territory. Quite the converse; if some deluded people want to live under the rule of this DINO (democracy-in-name-only), Russia needs them to populate its vast spaces and exploit its vast resources.

Western foreign policy maneuvering works best in the dark, we don’t really get to know what all these NGOs and government agencies have been up to until at least 50 years after the fact, if ever. Putin’s strategy works by calling it out into the open, and its rewarding to see our establishment squirm and try to scuttle like cockroaches away from the light. The media class is so fawning now they are just not used to being called on their BS. So when the leader of a major nation does it things start to unravel pretty quickly.

If you want to fully understand the political thinking behind everything I have said above, just look at a map showing the route Russia’s gas pipelines follow to get into the EU:

You can see at a glance why Russia could never stand back and allow the installation by foreign sponsored coup d’etat of an anti – Russian government in Kiev.

Ukraine was a regime change coup straight from the CIA playbook – Prof Francis Boyle

March 1, 2014

‘But, the United States’ government has been overthrowing democratically elected governments since the Mosaddegh Government in Iran and putting the Shah of Iran in power: so said Kermit Roosevelt, and even as he publicly bragged about it in his book Countercoup, there is even have a manual in circulation at the CIA dealing with how you overthrow governments.

So it seems to me this was a playbook coup d’état by the CIA. Nuland, the Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, working with the US Ambassador, we now have the tape on that. So this is a classic coup d’état, and working with what I can call ‘the brown shirts’ over there: Svoboda, the right sector, the Bandera people, think of these groups as The BNP times one million or Hitler’s storm troopers on speed, they’re right wing extremist nasty fuckers and the idiotic lefties in Britain, the Eurozone and the USA were so incensed about Putin being a bit harsh towards bearded queens in bridal gowns, they stupidly backed the neo Nazis to overthow a democratic, right wing government just as they had backed the human organ noshing religious fanatics in Syria.’

As I have said before, not all groups who rise against government are brave freedom fighters who just want freedom, democracy, lurve and peace and bearded queens in bridal gowns mincing up the aisles of churches*, and not all tough, undemocratic regimes are gleefully evil, most believe they are doing what needs to be done to maintain stability. And given what has happened in countries recently destabilised by western intervention, only an idiot (or possibly a university economics or sociology lecturer) would not agree that they might have a point.

In times of peace the rich get richer, the poor get poorer; in times of war the rich get richer, the poor get shot. This is the truth.

*I’ve nothing against bearded queens in bridal gowns but I hate leftie fuckwits who think gay rights issues are more important that avoiding global war.

Trouble In Egypt? I Told You So.

November 24, 2012

by Little Nicky Machiavelli

Trouble flared in Egypt and protests threatened to turn into riots as an audacious extension of his powers by President Mubarack Morsi, leader of the Muslim brotherhood returned the country to the kind of despotic rule it endured under Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak. So Egypt is exactly back where it was under the regime that western leaders like Obama, Cameron, Sarkozy, Merkel, Barroso and Ban Ki Moon were so eager to overthrow and replace with a free, democratically elected Islamic theocracy.

One again Little Nicky Machiavelli has to say, I told you so.

How has Barack Obama;a Arab Spring thing worked out for the west so far? Well, we bombed one dictator out of power in Libya, which set that nation free … to have terrorist networks, gangsters and tribal warlords openly operate and control the eastern part of the country, which resulted in the sacking of our consulate in Benghazi, and the deaths of four American diplomats. In Egypt, we started to push the longtime ally of the west out of power after just eight days of fairly peaceful protests, and then insisted on early elections in which only the radical Muslim Brotherhood could organize effectively. — now the freely elected Mulsim Brotherhood president has given himself absolute control over the government and the military.

But hey, in the fight for freeman moxy as President Bush used to say, it’s always worth suffering a little fascistic tyranny on the way and at least Egypt has a transitional democracy, right?

Erm … wrong.

(from Arab news agency anaonline via Associated Press) Egypt’s president on Thursday issued constitutional amendments that placed him above judicial oversight and ordered the retrial of Hosni Mubarak for the killing of protesters in last year’s uprising.

Mohammed Morsi also decreed immunity for the Islamist-dominated panel drafting a new constitution from any possible court decisions to dissolve it, a threat that had been hanging over the controversial assembly. …

The Egyptian leader also decreed that all decisions he has made since taking office in June and until a new constitution is adopted and a new parliament is elected — which is not expected before next spring — are not subject to appeal in court or by any other authority. He also barred any court from dissolving the Islamist-led upper house of parliament, a largely toothless body that has also faced court cases.

But aren’t these just window-dressing issues, you might well ask? After all Morsi is still accountable under the law, unlike that monstrous despot Hosni Mubarak, who only represented the interests of American capitalists Morsi is still constrained by the new democratic law that the Muslim Brotherhood ushered into Cairo in the Arab Spring.

Wrong again:

Al Jazeera via Politico: The moves effectively remove any oversight on Morsi, the longtime Muslim Brotherhood figure who became Egypt’s first freely elected president last summer after the Feb. 11, 2011 fall of autocrat Hosni Mubarak. They come as Morsi is riding high on lavish praise from President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for mediating an end to eight days of fighting between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers.

Morsi not only holds executive power, he also has legislative authority after a previous court ruling just before he took office on June 30 dissolved the powerful lower house of parliament, which was led by the Brotherhood. With two branches of power in his hands, Morsi has had repeated frictions with the third, the judiciary, over recent months.

“Morsi today usurped all state powers & appointed himself Egypt’s new pharaoh,” pro-reform leader Mohamed El Baradei wrote on his Twitter account. “A major blow to the revolution that could have dire consequences.”

We have gone very rapidly from having in control of Egypt, a strategically important nation of 90 million people, a US / EU friendly dictator whose regime stank of tyranny but managed to keep a lid on the Muslim Brotherhood and other extremists and enforced the peace treaty with Israel, to having in charge of the Suez Canal a dictator from the Muslim Brotherhood who wants to wipe Israel off the map and see Sharia law imposed over millions of secular Arabs. And the only people who couldn’t predict this very obvious outcome were the incompetent, narcissistic bell end in the White House who proclaimed foreign policy as “smart power” and the European sycophants who abandoned common sense in order to suck up to him.

Now how did that song from The Who go? What did they tell us should be our marching slogan? Won’t get fooled again?

But we did. We always get fooled because we trust our leaders, the professions, the media and big business too readily. And they are all totally dishonest. Don’t beat yourselves up too much though (unless you voted for global jihad and World War 3. We don’t have a lot of choice. Prising the fingers of the international; elite from the control levers will be a long, slow process.

I Would Do Anything To Get Assad Out Of Syria Says Cameron

November 6, 2012

Syrian president Bashar Assad could be allowed a free pass to flee his country if it would end the bloodshed, David Cameron said today. The Prime Minister said he would do ‘anything to get that man [Assad] out of the country’ but refused to offer Assad a safe haven in Britain.

Mr Cameron is on the second day of a tour of the Gulf and Middle East, where he has faced criticism for trying to sell UK arms to countries with questionable human rights records. Now there’s irony for you, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq, Iran and the Emirates criticizing us for doing business with countries that have poor records on human rights. Pity Maggie Thatcher gave away all our oil and we have to rely on those bastards.

Mr. Cameron has also publicly backed the Arab Spring uprisings, which began in Tunisia and also saw governments swept aside and replaced by undemocratic Islamist regimes in Libya, Egypt and Yemen. In Syria there have been bloody battles for more 18 months, with tens of thousands of protestors killed by government forces and tens of thousands of Assad supporters killed by bloodthirsty religious fanatics brave freedom fighters.

While the fighting continues in Syria the nation’s fate is expected to top the agenda for the two G20 leaders.

In an interview with Al Arabiya television the warmonger Cameron was asked what he would say if President Assad said he wanted a safe exit. He told : “Anything, anything to get that man out of the country and to have a safe transition to democracy in Syria.

Like all other western leaders, when it comes to foreign affairs Cameron is a cupid stunt for thinking the wests interests will be served by getting rid of the secular Muslim Assad and replacing him with a regime of Islamic fanatics who hate the west and want to impose Sharia law in their homelands. Getting rid of Mubarak in Egypt, Gaddafi in Libya and Saddam in Iraq has really turned those nations into beacons of democracy and enlightened liberal values hasn’t it?

Were Cameron to get his wish all it would mean is a brutal dictator would be gone. Syria would them simply descend into tribal and sectarian civil disorder.

Unless of course the New World Order get their wish and make Syria a colony of Greater Europe.

Even the lefties at The Guardian now accept Little Nicky is never wrong.

August 1, 2012

Do you remember, loyal readers (all two of you) the stick Little Nicky took when this blog said the west should keep it’s nose out of the civil conflict in Syria.

“Oh no,” the leftie sheeple bleated, “the west must intervene in support of the brave freedom fighters who want to overthrow the nasty consertvaive tyrant Assad and establish democratic rule, yooman rights and politically correct values in a multicultural system under Sharia law.

Then they departed singing their campaign song,

Yoo – man ri -ights, yoo -man ri – ights, we’ll support you evermore.”

The west’s leaders were lining up behind the wannabe global tyrant, Barack Hussein Obama, ready to engage in the kind of warfare favoured by the warmonger in chief Obama, that of sending unmanned drones to conduct an aerial bombardment unarmed civilians in the cause of bringing yooman rights to everyone in Syria except for those killed by the drones, when Russia and China stepped up to the mark.

“Oi, Bammy you jug eared streak of piss,” they said, “Assad is our mate, you want to fight him, you fight us too.”

Wee Mad Amadinejad in Iran squeaked “I second that.”

All of a sudden the idea of intervening did not seem quite so attractive. Suddenly the voices that had warned against intervention, that been telling you Assad might be a twat but the rebels were worse as they were Islamists who intended to set up a theocracy, were being listened to.

The conflict escalated. Obama could not resist meddling and started arming the rebels via borderline terrorist state Turkey’s border with Syria. Russia armed Assad. The civilians caught betwen the ruthless, well armed regime and the equally ruthless, slightly less well arned “freedom fighters” were slaughtered. And slowly the world started to get the message,. “You can’t impose politically correct values and bureaucratic dictatorship on people who do not desire it. Overthrowing tyrannical bastards is the easy part (so long as they are not best mates with Russia and China) Replaceing them with something better and winning the hearts and minds of the people is a different story.

The Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail came over to Little Nicky’s view quite quickly, The Times followed and the Indy has wavered. Even the BBC started to broadcast less biased reports. Security analyst Charles Shoebridge, congratulated the Beeb on a report that “shows Syria rebel fighters bringing chaos, terror, death, and [the] fear of Islamist extremism to Aleppo”.

Total victory over the dark forces of politically correct stupidity came when The Guradibi mercenaries woran ran a fire – and – brimstone – preacher style piece portraying the Syrian opposition as neo-con stooges of the Bilderberg group. (Not quite true, some are Bilderberg Group cannon fodder, some Al Qaeda mercenaries working for shadowy fundamentalists groups and some are local gangsters on the make.)

The slaughter would have happened on an even bigger scale had the west overthrown Assad and allowed the rebels to slaughter members of Assad’s tribe to stop them launching a counter revolution and slaughtering the Syriac Christians who make up about 10% of the 20 million population because it’s what you do.

Little Nicky’s message was, is and always will be: Meddling in things we don’t understand usually ends up achieving the opposite of what was intended.

Manifesto For A Global Democracy

July 4, 2012

Found this on Annarky’s blog today:

Manifesto for a global democracy

Here’s an extract:

Politics lags behind the facts. We live in an era of deep technological and economic change that has not been matched by a similar development of public institutions responsible for its regulation. The economy has been globalized but political institutions and democracy have not kept pace. In spite of their many peculiarities, differences and limitations, the protests that are growing all over the world show an increasing discontent with the decision-making system, the existing forms of political representation and their lack of capacity for defending common goods. They express a demand for more and better democracy.

Global welfare and security are under threat. The national and international order that emerged from the end of World War II and the fall of the Berlin Wall has not been able to manage the great advances in technology and productive systems for the benefit of all humanity …

Now my feeling is that something like this would be too easily usurped by the dark forces pushing the idea of global totalitarian government based on George Orwell’s Oligarchic Collectivist system. Democracy would be as meaningful worldwide as it has become in the EU where a democratic vote that goes against what the bureaucrats in Brussels want is simply ignored and the voters are told, “You gave the wrong answer, you must vote again.”

Any idea that prompts people to abandon their interia, give up on the Dr, Panglos philosophy that “All Is For The Best In This The Best Of All Possible Worlds” and start thinking about what kind of furure we are handing to our children and grandchildren is worth looking at.

Ah buut then, while I know true Anarchy is a political philosophy that could not work in the real world (like Marxism, socialism, fascism, conservatism and corporatism) I am a classical liberal which is about as close to anarchy as a political system involving gover nment can get.

Egypt, Islam and Democracy

June 25, 2012

The military are still the power behind the throne in Egypt despite the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood candidate in the Presidential election. They appear to have learned a lesson from events in a Algeria over two decades ago. In December 1991, an Islamist party calling itself the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) won an outright majority in the first round of Algeria’s parliamentary election. The army immediately responded by cancelling the second round of the contest, which would have taken place in January 1992. Algeria’s ruling military council then mounted a thinly disguised coup that sealed their dominance of Algerian politics.

Since, the “Algeria option” has become shorthand for preventing Islamist parties from actually taking power even if they happen to win elections. It has also become shorthand for bloodshed, folly and failure. The Algerian army’s catastrophic decision forced the country’s Islamist movement underground, rendered it far more extreme and compelled its leaders to take up arms. The result was a terrible civil war which, by the turn of the millennium, had claimed 100,000 lives. Although much abated, this conflict continues to this day. Meanwhile, some of Algeria’s Islamists allied with al-Qaeda and helped to form a terrorist organisation that has now spread across a swathe of Africa.

So the Egyptian generals did not go so far as to rob Mohammed Morsi, a pillar of the Muslim Brotherhood, of his victory in the presidential election. They will allow him to take office, while seeking to constrain his power and solidify their own role, to the extend of overturning the results of parliamentary elections and appointing members to the assembly.

But thery have not ignited the highly volatile situation by simply installing their man as President. Such comtempt for the electorate could have triggered civil conflict. It is worth noting that the President elect, who has not taken office yet, has already said he wants closer ties with the Shi’ite regime in Iran. We cand only wait to see how the Sunni dominated Egyptian military will react to that.

All this again demonstrates why Little #Nicky has always been right to oppose intervention in the internal political affairs of middle eastern nations. They have their own ways of doing things which we do not understand. Intervention, no matter how well intentioned, in national conflicts, no matter how bloody, is far more likely to make things worse rather than better.
